So when I do exercise, my muscles get sore and I really find out where they are. Using the hip abductor/adductor machine at my gym, I find it really works my glutes and my inner thighs, but not so much my hips. I'm okay with this since I need muscle toning wherever I can get it, but the hips do seem like a difficult area to target with a specific exercise or machine.

Ok, because all of you (or most) seem to be quite ...

Ok, because all of you (or most) seem to be quite old, I need to mention a 17 year old's point of view. These machines actually are very good for toning your inner/outer thighs. Toning means to bring out the muscles so they are more defined on the bone (what I define toning as). If you do it HARD enough and enough REPS, you definitely will feel it. Walking, jumping etc. almost doesn't even touch on these muscles. When you walk, you're using the calves and top of your thighs, NOT the sides.
